Advantages of Riding a Bicycle
The advantages of riding a bicycle are numerous. One of
the greatest advantages is that bike riding can substantially
contribute to your physical health and well-being. Bicycling
is a great cardiovascular exercise. It gets the heart going
with little effort. It therefore reduces the risk of heart
disease and lowers blood pressure. Bicycling also boosts
aerobic capacity, which means more oxygen is delivered to
the muscles. Bicycling helps reduce the stress put on your
knees, which occurs during jogging. A lot of people in the
United States lead very sedentary lifestyles. This lifestyle
robs us of real exercise, which in turn robs us of our health.
As long as you ease into riding and don’t do too much
at the beginning, riding a bike can be a safe, invigorating
and fun way to get yourself back in shape. Did you know
that riding a bike ten miles a day at a reasonable pace
can provide the 2000kCal recommended for a long and healthy
life? One way to increase weekly mileage is to use the bike
to run errands, such as purchasing groceries and going shopping.
Also, biking to work or to run errands has many cost benefits
to the rider. Of course, the greatest savings would accrue
if you can avoid purchasing a car altogether, because bikes
do not require gas or parking, and they are easy and economical
to maintain. Not owning a car can save you a lot of money,
depending on the make, model and year. Of course, there
are times when you need motorized vehicle transportation.
If your area has good public transportation, you can ride
the bus, call a cab, or ride a train. Even if you own a
car, leaving it at home whenever possible can save on gas,
maintenance costs and reduce mileage and thus increase the
life of the car and its trade-in value when you sell the
car.
Biking can reduce the stress of going to work because everyone
knows dealing with traffic can be unbearable. Bicycle traffic
is little if any. Once arriving at work no time is wasted
looking for a parking place. Additional advantages accrue
when you ride an Efun folding bike. If for example, you
live too far from work to ride the bike all the way, then
with an Efun portable folding bicycle, you can drive your
car part way to work with the bike folded inside the trunk.
Then park your car at a convenient location, unfold the
bike and ride it the rest of the way to work. Then you can
fold it and carry it to your office for safe keeping until
you are ready to go home.
Finally, it might just be faster to ride a bike to work
than drive a car. Of course, it will depend on how far from
work you live, the congestion problems, the parking problems
(how difficult it is to find a parking place and how far
you would have to walk from the parking lot or garage if
using a car), and a host of other considerations, but why
not give it a try. You might be surprised how much time
you can save and how much stress you can reduce. You also
need to consider how much you have to pay to park!
Bikes are not only good for the body and save money, but
they are also good for the environment because they are
quiet and do not pollute the air. Bikes do not contribute
to carbon dioxide, or carbon monoxide particulates in the
air. This benefit is especially good, because it helps others
as much as you. Another benefit you share with others is
the lessening of traffic congestion. This reduces the stress
of drivers and pedestrians, and can lead to a much calmer
ride to and from work for all involved.
